Many people celebrate the New Year, but do you know how old the celebration of the New Year is? Celebrating for the new year is not a new concept. This tradition comes all the way from the Mesopotamians! In the country of Denmark a tradition they have is to throw dishes on each others doorsteps and that’s supposed to bring the person who has all the broken dishes new friends.  Many people know that we drop the ball in New York City on New Year’s Eve, but did you know that back when they started to do that it was made of wood and iron? January 1st as New Year was never a standard practice. Romans for instance celebrated March 1 as New Year. Some other cultures went for winter solstice or summer equinox. Many different people have many different traditions. These are just a few crazy facts about the new Year!
