Ah, March 2020; one of the world’s worst years. While we were all stuck inside while the world was burning behind us, it felt like Animal Crossing was a ray of sunshine through the storm. Animal Crossing: New Horizons was the 8th game in the series, released by Nintendo for the Switch. Animal Crossing is a chill game where you build up an island from nothing, into a beautiful town.
We bought ACNH and the Switch in July of 2020. This game has brought us both a lot of joy. The game follows a real-time clock so every hour is a different experience. Every hour plays a different song so it’s a lot different whenever you play. Same with seasons. If you’re playing in the northern hemisphere, you’ll see the seasons changing- snow, rain, the leaves will change color and a lot more. It’s really fun.
You start off the game by being greeted by little racoons named Timmy and Tommy and they introduce you to the “Deserted Island Getaway Package.” You get to customize your character and then off you go to your deserted island. You get to meet two of your starting villagers. One of them is a male jock-type villager, and the other one is a female older-sister-type villager. You then meet Tom Nook, the president of the island. From there you have to just live your best island life and get more villagers, expand on agriculture and infrastructure. The main goal of the game is to get the celebrity pop-star, K.K. Slider to come to your island and to get a 5-star island rating. We recommend this game to almost everyone. If you don’t have a Nintendo Switch, there are many other versions of the game; on the 3DS, DS, Wii, GameCube, and even a mobile version. Good luck with your new island!
