Divergent

Hello students! Searching for a new read? Look no further! Bookworm’s Digest Jr. is a series of articles based on fantasy and adventure books fit for middle school readers, like you! So join us as we give you another star studded suggestion- Divergent by Veronica Roth!

Imagine a world close to perfection – everyone living together, divided into 5 groups that each contribute themselves to a portion of society. One faction, or group, for the smart, one faction for the brave, one faction for the honest, one faction for the kind, and one for the peaceful.

And then there are outcasts, people that don’t fit in with any of these factions, called Divergent. The storyline follows the journey of a 16 year old girl, who is Divergent, as she journeys through her faction Choosing Ceremony into her new life that isn’t all what she thought it would be.

While stressed over this, she finds out about special plans of her faction leaders that go against all of her personal values. Will she stand up and fight? Or will she choose to be loyal to her faction no matter what? As Veronica Roth quotes, “One choice can transform, destroy, or define you.”
